2024. p5js, photoshop, and mixed media + website design

A project with one of the most interesting creative processes—unique rituals where I created an algorithm for creative inputs…

2024 was a period when I struggled with my health, both mentally and physically, the most. My severe dry eyes bothered me the most.

(ritual 3)

In my ritual “Screen Time V ersus Health: Battlefield,” I decide to collect data about my screen time because while I suffer from dry eye and am aware that I should limit my screen time, I am afraid to check my screen times. I begin this project by recording my phone and computer screen-time, sleep quality, mood, healthy activity, and drinks consumption for a week. However, I purposely started checking my iphone screen after Day 4 to observe how my awareness changes my relationship with technology. On Day 3 and Day 4, I also made plans to go out, for dating as well as giving my eyes a break from technology. After I check my iPhone screen time and its distribution for each apps, I begin making records(on how much time spent on an app and design classification and labels that relegate my screen times and activities into those that are harmful to my eyes, and those that are helpful to my dry eye condition through colors and iconography designs.

“Today, I am Cynthia; I am not just Cindy but a different—perhaps enhanced—version of Cindy” while I “decorate” myself.

“The name of my ritual is The Dry Eye Altar, and it is about coping with the uncertainty of my dry eye disease.”
